"Mitya" - 1860 - 1881
Dimitri Constantinovich was born at Strelna on June 13th, 1860, fifth
child and third son of Grand Duke Constantine Nicolaevich and Grand
Duchess Alexandra Iosifovna. Emperor Alexander II named the new born
baby Colonel-in-Chief of the Grenadiers Regiment of Mingrelia and enlisted
him in the Horse Guards Regiment, both designations effective as of
date of his birth. and also in the Guards Izmailovsky regiment.10004

Later that year on July 8th, Grand Duke Dimitri was enlisted in the
Guards 4th Rifle Battalion Of the Imperial Family, in the
Guards Equipage, the Guards Izmailovsky Regiment and The Horse Guards
Regiment. 8388
On July 11th, Grand Duke Dimitri was enlisted in the 2nd Company of
the Guards 4th Rifle Battalion "of the Imperial Family" .
The first nanny of the Grand Duke was English and her assistant was
Varvara Petrovna Mihailov, the daughter of a manservant of Grand Duke
Constantine Nicolaevich. Nanny Varvara took over after the English nanny

Grand Duke Constantine Nicolaevich, his wife and his children Nicholas,
Olga, Vera, Constantine, Dimitri and Wyatcheslav, travelled to Georgia
to be guests of his brother the Viceroy Grand Duke Michael Nicolaevich.
The travellers stopped on their way at Kiev, wrote on August 8th, 1866

On his seventh birthday, June 13th, 1867 n.st. Grand Duke Dimitri was
enlisted in the Guards Grodno Hussars Regiment, and his education was
entrusted to the cares of A.I. Zelenoy, a naval officer 8388 & 43/024/1
The first years of Dimitri youth were spent at Strelna, in St. Petersburg,
at Pavlovsky and at Orianda in Crimea. Having reached the age of seven,
Dimitri education was entrusted to a tutor, navy officer I. A. Zelenoy.
